Z. Johnson: Blog Post 1

This is an ad for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class car. The advertisement depicts four pairs of full, round breasts that are slightly covered by what appears to be a black, silk cloth that says "8 Airbags" in the center of it. The fancy cloth is supposed to represent the car. The shiny, black color of the cloth and the white, cursive script sets a comfortable, classy mood. The intention of this is to say that the car is luxurious, but cozy at the same time. The silk is supposed to represent smoothness, as if to say that the car looks and rides smooth on top of being comfortable and classy. It also adds to the luxury of the car because silk is a luxurious fabric. The four pairs of breasts represent the eight airbags, and they aren't just regular breasts. They are full, round, beautiful, desirable breasts, as if to say that the S-Class isn't just any car, it is a "smooth", "safe", beautiful, and desirable car. The same applies for the font that the car's name is written in. It doesn't just say "The S-Class" in plain font. It says "The S-Class" in golden, cursive font to represent wealth and prestige, because the S-Class is an expensive luxury car. The ad is definitely meant to appeal to wealthy men who appreciate luxury, comfortability, and beauty.

  1. This advertisement is actually pretty creative! Breasts as airbags? I don't think I would ever even think of that! It is a great way to sell a car to men. The advertisment itself is so rich, with the silky black fabric and the golden script font. I agree with you that this advertisement was meant to "appeal to wealthy men who appreciate luxury, comfortability, and beauty."

  2. This ad is very intriguing. It is the type of ad that makes you really want to look at it and see what it is trying to say. At first I didnt realize that it was trying to sell cars. The logo is so small and it does not look like airbags at first. But after a closer look, you get the whole picture which is using girls to try to sell cars.
