Question 4

When I watch this commercial I notice it is from a different country. The things that stick out and appeal to me are the looks of the woman, and the attitude of the man. As this man drinks more of this beer the woman ,that is not good looking, gets better looking after every drink. The author is relating their drink to making women look better looking. I would say the writer is talking to an audience of young, single men that are interested in beer and women. I believe the audience values getting drunk, and meeting new people. I don't think the author does a very good job at advertising his product. The ad is about a type of beer, and you don't really know what kind of beer it is until the very end of the commercial, and even then it is not specified well. I also don't think this is a very good technique to sell the product. It is only directed towards single men. I feel that it could be a good sell for single men, but I don't think it would be very useful for other men that are not looking for a girl. On the other hand it could work for the men that are not satisfied with what their partner looks like, so in order to be attractive to them they should drink this beer. The look and attitude of the man in the commercial shows that he likes the beer for its effects on his eyesight. However it doesn't show or talk about the taste of the beer. All types of beer impair your vision and mind, you would think they would advertise the taste of the beer rather then the effects.

  1. I also think that while this ad draws attention, that it will ultimately be uneffective. Enough of any kind of beer distorts perceptions, so the ad doesn't necessarily focus on their brand as much as it does beer in general. There's nothing in this ad (even if I was a single man) that would attract me to this specific brand of beer opposed to any other brand.

  2. I think they understand that a large amount of beer consumers drink it for the effects, and not for the taste. Being more attracted to women is a common perceived effect, and one that many beer consumers are aware of and comfortable with.

  3. I think that the ad could have been effective if the name of the beer was more prominent, perhaps mentioned more than once? Although the main actor of this advertisement is a young male, this ad attracts many different people. They use a woman as an exaple in the advertisement, but as is shown in the comments left on the video, the same effect can work on men. If a woman drinks this beer the men in the bar will look better as well. I think that although the obvious audience of this advertisement is young single men, that there are still a lot of other people that will be effected by the ad.

  4. I think it's also important to note that because this commercial is shot in a different country, the idea of beautiful or attractive may be different. In most of the ads that portray beautiful women in the US, the models have long hair that is not pulled back. In this ad they have the hair pulle back away from the face. There are many different views of what makes a woman more beautiful and since that is the basis of this ad and what is selling the product, the type of woman shown at his moat drunken phase must be what is most popularly idealized as beautiful in this country. However, the makers of the ads can never encompass what everyone finds beautiful. To some the girl in the beginning might be the most beautiful, in that case proving their ad entirely irrelevant.

  5. From my perspective, I maintain that this commercial does not show the taste of beer. Rather this commercial shows the effect of drinking alcohol, especially drinking alcohol makes women show up in front of me. If alcohol runs out of, men would need some more drink.

  6. I think it was interesting that you pointed out that they did not advertise the taste. It would be hard for many people, male or female, to want to buy this product if they do not even know how it tastes. I agree with where you said that all types of beer can mess with your vision or mind. The company needed to do a better job explaining what made this beer better than the rest.

  7. This beer ad is trying to tell us the more you drink, the more you find people attractive which makes me wonder who its targeting. The commercial obviously does not target women and bautiful is relative.

  8. Personally, I like this commercial since it is succeed in drawing people's attentions. Viewers are not told too much about the beer itself but completely feel interested about this ad because of the funny performance and sexual suggestive content. So this ad is quite novelty. Even though there are a lot of ads doing very well in explaining the products, they are still worse than this beer commercial with the indifferent qualities.

  9. To make this commercial more effective, they would need to portray something that is specific to their beer. Anything that had to do with taste or the likeability of the beer would work. This advertisement would probably sell better if the target audience was bigger. It only targets heavy drinkers that are looking for things that only are going to take place when you are drunk. They do not focus on what happens when the guy is not drunk and he realizes that this would have never happened if he would not have been so drunk.

  10. I also thought that this ad was very weak and ineffective. It seems like a joke, maybe a funny video your buddy would send you when he was bored. It shows the beer at the end, sort of just throwing it in there. For me, it doesn't do a good job of making an impression.
