Group 4 Blog Post: Go-Daddy Ad.

The Go-Daddy Ad we found n Youtube premiered this year in the line up of the Super Bowl ads. The Go-Daddy ads have a reputation for using sexual content as a means to promote a website that sells domain names for other websites.
In this particular ad it depicts two "Go-Daddy girls" back stage moments before the shoot of a Go-Daddy commercial. These girls are attractive which automatically draws your attention to them. They are arguing with their manager about how they don't want to follow through with the commercial which they are about to perform. The one woman claims that she once "had to take a shower with a woman" and "be arrested by a cop stripper", but what they had to do for this commercial was too far. this leads the viewer to believe that this commercial will be sexually explicit. Up to this point there is really no clues as to what the commercial is actually about. They repeatedly say and show the name Go-Daddy.com, but there is no description saying what the website might be. At first glance you might think that this is actually a porn site because of the way it leads you on and is subjective to the women.
Eventually these girls come out wearing giant costumes that literally spell out "Go-Daddy" and they perform a skit on stage that is rather embarrassing. Even then there is no description as to what the website is except for the giant billboard lettering at the back of the stage saying "Websites, Domains, and everything in between." Most people would not even notice this, but they will still have an interest in checking out the website because of the way it sells sexual content. At the end of the commercial Go-daddy makes sure to remind you that their website is unrated as well.   1. I think the commercial is ineffective and it does not inform the viewer about the product or service. GoDaddy is mentioned a couple of times and I dont think using hallf-naked women in the commercial helps. It will certainly grab a guy's attention but it does not tell you what the product or service is.

I find the dynamic of this commercial interesting because during the plot of the ad, the two women say that "we're not going to do it", and yet the actual actresses are in fact walking around half-naked to portray this. It would seem that the actresses are trying to portray themselves as being reluctant to take their clothes off, but they are getting paid for this racy commercial and do it anyway.

  3. This commercial was not effective in advertising the website. It does not explain exactly what the website is about. Until the end, the website appears to have something to do with sexually explicit contexts. Even when it states what the website is about in the end, it is not clear what that means and why someone should visit. I do not think the Go Daddy commercials are successful due to them not informing their audience about their website.

  4. I think that the commercials that Go Daddy does are very effective in getting their name out there, and eventually selling their product. They repeat their name numerous times and always have attractive women promoting it as well. Their commercials are very catchy, in the fact that the song gets stuck in my head after seeing the commercial. This is the purspoe of advertising, having the consumers recognize your product. So, in terms of selling their name, I think that Go Daddy does a great job with that.

  5. I think that this advertisement has too much going on for viewers to want to pursue the brand being advertised. There are so many different scenes throughout this ad that it creates its own plot. The goal of an advertisment is not to tell a story, but to increase brand exposure. This ad would be just as effective if it was half the length, and if the opening and closing scenes were removed. A better use of time, opposed to these scenes, would be to tell the viewers a little bit about the website. After viewing this ad, I did not have a good idea of what the purpose of godaddy.com was.

  7. I think that this advertisement has too much going on it it also. It seems as if the commercial goes too far out of the way to emphasize the sexual part of their ad. I think that they should focus more on the Go Daddy aspect of the ad, instead of focusing so much on objectifying the women. I don't think that this is an effective commercial at all.
