Individual Post Group 5

Many of the comments on the Youtube video were very angry with how the commercial was shown with the many stereotypes that were portrayed such as men only wanting sex and women being concerned with how the man is good to be a future partner. One comment went into a lot of depth about how they were bothered by the commercial and what it stood for. The person's father had directed Ford commercials and they knew from their father that they pay with people's "ignorance" as this person put it. In other words, people were taking this commercial way to seriously and were even having arguments in some points of the comment section. On the other side, there were many people that enjoyed the humor of this "typical" first date atmosphere. They would quote the commercial during the comedy parts before they bring in the product being advertised. These people did not take the commercial to be stereotypical of people or think that this is how all first dates go. If this is how all first dates were, no one would ever go on a first date with anyone. They know that this is not true about how first dates are and they just took the humor out of the situation which was probably the way it was just meant to be intended to be. Lastly, few people would just go to comment that the girl was hot in the advertisement.

  1. Anyone taking the commercial seriously needs to learn what humor is. I thought the commercial was interesting because of the simple surface of what was on their minds. Typically when a guy is out with a girl and she is attractive, the thought will cross his mind. Any guy seeing this will agree with me to a point, even if they wouldnt admit it.

  2. This commercial is not supposed to be taken so seriously. It is just a light, funny commercial about the typical first date. I don't think this commercial was offensive in any way. To me, it was just another commercial, nothing special.

  3. I find it interesting that people find the man in the commercial the stereotypical man on a first date. From my point of view, the man might be thinking more about sex than the woman is, but I definitely don't believe it's the only (or primary) thing on his mind. First dates for both men and women are very nerve-racking and the main thing both people more likely think about is not saying or doing the wrong thing. I also find it interesting that not only does the man put sex above the woman's inner value, but he puts the product - Pepsi Max - above her too.

  4. The ultimate goal of any advertisement is to sell the product. Whether it be through humor or seriousness, as long as the product is exposed to an audience, the job is being done. Obviously, this comercial is intended to be humorous. It is the humor of the commercial that makes us rembember the product. Even if the comercial is taken literally, the ultimate goal of exposing the product is still being achieved, as if some people cared enough to post comments about it, they are apparently remembering ad, and thus remembering the product.

  5. I think its quite interesting how caught up in the comercial people became! Advertisment is a key element in selling the product and people will do whatever it takes to make this happen. This advertisment was meant to be funny and just make its viewers laugh. We know how crazy our minds are on first dates, ideas are flooding through are minds and this is the exact moment the comercial was trying to create. Personally I think it was done extremely effectively.

  6. I understand how some people think that is commercial is offensive, but on a first date guys are not typically going to want a lot out of a woman. They do not know after one date if they are going to want to be with this person for life. So for them to be thinking about other things is typical. Most women want to know everything as soon as possible about a guy. They are just making a commercial about things that actually happen but putting a funny spin on things.

  7. I understand where the people are coming from who find this offensive but it's not how the commercial is meant to be. It's taking a common steryotype and making it humorous. The girl in the ad is attractive, like most are. And when a guy sees an attractive girl, the thought of sex does sometimes cross his mind, but that doesn't mean it's the only thing that he cares about. I think people should just enjoy the commercial as it's meant to be funny.

  8. I agree with what Nick said. The main of the commercial is to expose the product and in this ad it has people discussing how humorous or stereotypical it is. It does a good job of playing with people's mind and in the process the product sticks in people's heads.

  9. I agree that people take commercials like these way too seriously. At the end of the day, they are meant to be funny. I believe if someone is offended by a commercial like this one, they are completely missing the point. Pepsi Max is simply trying to promote a product, and I think they succeeded with this advertisement.
