Question 4

The Pepsi Max advertisement is more directed to men. It was aired during the Superbowl, and since this is a sporting event it is thought to have more male viewers than female viewers. However it does incorporate women through the humor of the first date situation. It mocks both the stereotypical ideal of how men and women act on their first dates and what they are thinking about. It shows men as caring more about sexual desires than a life long partner, while women are thinking more about a long term relationship then just the night. This shows a mocking ideal of how relationships or first dates are set out. This commercial is supposed to be humorous and not taken seriously, so I think the writer is hoping that their audience has a good sense of humor. Also, I think that this commercial is hoping the audience values the type of beverage they drink. The creators of this advertisement attempt to display how good of a drink Pepsi Max is through the man’s thoughts in this commercial. By putting Pepsi Max above sex in this man's head is somewhat of a big deal. The stereotypical ideal for a man is to put sex above anything else, so for a man to change his original thoughts to the Pepsi Max beverage means it must be a very good drink. I think that this advertisement creates a set target audience effectively and creates a commercial that is relatable in a funny, mocking sort of way.

  2. i think this ad worked because it was aired during the superbowl, when people dont expect the ads to have a serious tone and are looking for them to be comical. i think what you brought up about the man's thought process was a good point and i believe the writers were trying to make this their main point

  3. I think that this comercial was effective so much more just because it was aired during the superbowl. The comercial was obviously aiming to be a humurous advertisement. Being aired during the superbowl, with a more male audience helps create this humor more. Furthermore, the superbowl is a time to get together with your friends to have a good time and laugh. This comercial does exactly that, it makes the viewers laugh at a situation everyone knows can be a little akward, the first date.

  4. I think that this commercial was meant to be humorous also. I also agree that it was meant to target men, because it was aired during the Superbowl. It seems as if this commercial has started a few arguments between men and women, judging from the comments on the YouTube video. This has led me to believe that this commercial is not very effective.

  6. I thought that this advertisement was pretty funny as well, and when it shows a man thinking about a Pepsi over sex, it makes the (male) audience believe Pepsi is something important. The makers of Pepsi do a good job of targeting the male audience in this commercial, but I also think they do a good job of targeting the female audience. Having the woman talk about stereotypical hypotheticals would be relatable with other women.
